Huddle: Party Word Games
Huddle is two party games for one phone. Nobody installs anything, nobody makes an account, and nobody needs a second device or a Wi-Fi connection. You type in the players' names once, hand the phone to whoever is up, and the phone runs the round. It is built for a table full of people who are already talking over each other, with type you can read from across the room and buttons you can hit while laughing.
Forbidden
Two teams. The describer holds the phone and sees a target word with five banned words underneath it. They have to get their team to say the target without using any of the five. Teammates shout guesses; the other team leans over the describer's shoulder ready to buzz the moment a banned word slips out. A correct guess is a point and a new card. A skip fetches a new card for free or at a one-point cost, depending on the house rule you set. The last ten seconds count down loudly in red, then the phone crosses the table. First team to the target score wins.
The banned words are not written by hand. Each card takes the five words closest in meaning to the target, which is why they are the five you most want to say. Describing ocean without sea, water, wave, beach or deep is exactly as awkward as it should be.
Impostor
Everyone at the table is shown the same secret word — except one player, who gets a close neighbour of it. Close enough to bluff with, different enough to get caught. Going round the table, each player says a single word as a clue, then everyone votes on who does not belong. The table wins by voting the impostor out. The impostor wins by surviving to the final two, or, if caught, by guessing the real word. For larger groups there are two impostors, and you can add a Mr White — a player who is given no word at all and has to improvise a clue from what the others say.
Because the impostor's word is a genuine near neighbour rather than a random pick, the clues stay plausible for longer and the deduction is real. Three to ten players.
Built for the table
- A clear “pass the phone” screen before every hand-over, so nobody sees a card early.
- Adjustable turn length, target score and skip penalty, remembered between sessions.
- Haptic buzz and countdown beeps, both switchable off for quieter rooms.
- Lifetime win tallies per name, so the argument about who is best has data.
- Themed packs — Animals, Food & Drink, People, Nature, Things — each unlocked once, forever, by watching a single short ad, if you want them.
